History
First Presbyterian Church of Clinton was created in 1919 by the merger of First Congregational Church of Clinton, established in 1858, and the Clinton Methodist Church.
The building owned by the Congregational Church became the Presbyterian Church and its manse became the home of the pastor who served the 149 members of the combined congregations.
That spirit of coming together for mutual good continues to guide First Presbyterian, which has shared facilities with other Clinton congregations that need space for worship services due to fire, financial need, or a desire for fellowship.
Over the years, several major building projects have helped maintain the church building and grounds create additional space for educational activities, provide facilities to accommodate members with physical challenges, and modernize our approach to worship. As of 2009, First Presbyterian has 173 active members.
